“Harassed” for the repayment of a loan, the man commits suicide; pawnshop reserved

A pawnshop has been accused of complicity after a 52-year-old businessman committed suicide on Saturday in Unjha, Mehsana, after being harassed over the repayment of a loan of Rs 2 lakh and its interest, a the police announced.

According to the police, Amrit Patel, a resident of Chandpad, was the owner of a tea room and a paan tea room located next to the Unjha highway, had taken out a loan of Rs 2 lakh for his store at the rate interest of 15% per month. of a certain Anil Patel, a resident of Umiya Nagar.

On Saturday, Amrit’s son Pintu spotted his father’s body in a pond in Unjha village, around 12 hours after he went missing. An alleged two-page suicide note was recovered by police from Amrit’s residence.

“I run a paan salon in Ahmedabad. On Saturday morning, my mother called me to inform me that my father had not returned from his shop since Friday evening. I started looking for my dad on my motorbike. At around 10 am, I found his slippers near a pond in the village of Unjha and alerted the police and firefighters, who then recovered his body, ”Pintu said in his police complaint. .

According to the complainant, Amrit had taken out a loan of Rs 2 lakh from Anil Patel at 15 percent interest per month. “Since he couldn’t pay the interest for a few months, Anil Patel used to come to us and mistreat him. Once he also kidnapped my father and took him to an unknown building, after which he got scared. He was under a lot of stress recently, ”said the complainant.

A police officer from Unjha Police Station said the alleged suicide note was given to them by Pintu, who claimed to have found it at their residence in Unjha.

“We sent the letter to the forensic laboratory for further testing. Meanwhile, we booked Anil Patel under Sections 306 of Indian Penal Code for Incitement to Suicide, 341 for Undue Obstruction, 504 for Intentional Insult and 506 for Criminal Intimidation as well as Sections of the Money Lenders Act. from Gujarat. The accused will soon be arrested, ”the officer said.
