Pune: On Saturday, a couple was detained by Chatushrungi police for murder and extortion. The accused has been identified as Deepak Gaware (50) and his wife Sonali (45), were taken into custody until July 25.

According to the report, Usha Kate from the Pimple Saudagar region took out a loan of Rs 30 lakh from Deepal Gaware and his wife. The victim claimed that she repaid the loan with interest, but the lender claimed that there were unpaid contributions. After Kate refused to pay Rs 80 lakh that the lender requested, they started harassing her.

Kate filed an FIR claiming the couple were threatening to kill their son. They also forced her son Mahesh to sign and give his thumbprint on stamp papers. In her police complaint, she further noted that the suspects locked Mahesh in Deccan Gymkhana and beat him.

Kate filed a complaint with the Ministry of Finance when she learned that her 7.5-acre land in the Raigad district of Maharashtra had been transferred on behalf of someone else.

Kate informed police that her son filed a complaint against four suspects in January.

While commenting on the incident, Chief Inspector Rajkumar Waghchavre said: “Kate later learned that her 7.5-acre land in Raigad district had been transferred in the name of one of the suspicious women”, quoted through Times of India.
